Hickory Hardwood Flooring
Aside from its natural beauty, hickory hardwood flooring is also an excellent choice because of its hardness and durability. It is high density, flexible and very resilient, so it’s able to stand up to centuries of wear. If your intention is to be the proud owner of a truly eye-catching, stylish hardwood floor, then hickory hardwood flooring is certainly an excellent choice.
Popular in kitchen cabinetry, hickory is known for its distinctive look and sharp contrast of light and dark colours. The sapwood is white, while the heartwood varies from pale brown to a warm reddish brown in colour.
Hickory hardwood floors come in two grades:
- Country Grade hardwood
The boards are carefully selected for the beautiful natural character of the timber, graded to create a more exotic hardwood floor. It is often hand graded to find planks with knots and greater contrasts between light and dark coloring, giving a glimpse into the life of the tree and resulting in an authentic antique appearance.
- Select Grade hardwood
Though typically straight grained, this grade of hickory may also be wavy or irregular and has a rather coarse texture. It has fewer knots than Country Grade hardwood hickory and is particularly graded to have more subtle variations of light and dark brown coloring throughout its flowing grain structure. If you’re interested in a more contemporary look and feel, then Select Grade hardwood hickory is the way to go.
Whether you like the contemporary look or prefer the ‘log-cabin’ feel, hickory hardwood achieves a truly authentic look. To give your home a true touch of distinction, there’s nothing better.
